Dr. Chuck Bailey and Habib Francis both receive Tour de Cure grants
Tour de Cure has awarded a $100,000 Pioneering Research Grant to Dr. Chuck Bailey for investigating new therapeutic strategies in cancer. Existing cancer therapies can lack efficacy or have limited application in the clinical setting. Dr Bailey has discovered an entirely new approach to attacking cancer that has not been proposed before. We have exciting new preliminary data suggesting that we can utilise agents that target the 3D architecture of DNA to induce rapid cell death in cancer cells. Our data is exciting in that it offers the first insight that ‘cellular sabotage’ is a viable strategy for targeting cancer cells irrespective of their genetic makeup or origin. This could be a potential new treatment for those cancers with limited or no current therapeutic options. Thus this project may have a positive impact on cancer treatment by offering new avenues for therapeutic intervention in the future.
Great work Chuck!
Habib Francis has been awarded a Phd Support Scholarship from Tour de Cure. He will receive $10,000 from Tour de Cure to support his PhD project.
