Heidi wins two Centenary scientific image prizes!

A massive congratulations to our research assistant, Heidi Strauss, on winning two awards in the 2023 Centenary Institute scientific image competition. This year the scientific images were displayed in the ‘When Art Meets Science’ exhibition in the Fountain Court at NSW Parliament during the month of August. Heidi took out the prize for Centenary staff pick, as well as People’s Choice award, voted by the general public.

Her winning piece, entitled ‘the scream’, is an immunofluorescence image of a pancreatic organoid. The image represents the distress and range of emotions that patients experience after cancer diagnosis and throughout their cancer journey. In this image we were investigating a specific marker that is overexpressed in pancreatic tumours that we hope to trigger to improve patient outcomes.
